Kerton Sweet Peas is situated at North Farm, Pawlett, near Bridgwater, and was established 20 years ago by Phil and Joyce Kerton, when Wilf Walker, a local man (who sadly died in 2002) asked them to grow a heady fragrant, lavender-coloured sweet pea called Marion, (named after his mother), that none of the other nurseries wanted to grow, although it had won the Clay Cup at the National Sweet Pea Society Show.
Phil and Joyce began with four rows of these fragrant, frilly flowers and now they grow around 50 varieties (some named after various people, some of which have a sad story behind them), on the two acres of land, which originally belonged to Joyce’s grandfather.
If you’re passing Kerton Sweet Peas in the summer months, where you might see Joyce working in the fields, there will be bunches of these colourful, fragrant flowers for sale outside the gate.
Plants are available to buy from our premises from the beginning of February.
